UK’s Ecotricity to build 3 hybrid renewable energy parks

October 23 – Green energy company Ecotricity on Friday unveiled plans for three hybrid renewable energy parks, saying that more such projects combining wind and solar generation should be built in the UK.
The company is to add solar arrays to two existing wind parks in Devon and Lincolnshire, and a third one to a wind park that is now being built in Leicestershire. Together the three solar installations will have a capacity of 15 MW.
Wind and solar power sources are complementary and the combination provides more consistent energy supply, notes Ecotricity founder Dale Vince. In the announcement, he accused the government of having rigged the market in favour of fossil fuels and called on the ruling Conservative party to level the playing field by removing the subsidies for fossil fuels as they had done for wind and solar power.
Earlier this week, Ecotricity launched its ecobond three, seeking to raise up to GBP 25 million (USD 38.5m/EUR 34.6m) to help build six projects that are already under construction. These include a nine-turbine wind park in Dalby, a windmill to power Queen Elizabeth Hospital in King’s Lynn and a sun park in Somerset.
The company also said it was making preparations to build an up-to-22-turbine wind farm at Heckington Fen in Lincolnshire.
