UK to open next CfD round on Oct 21

March 25 – The UK will launch the next Contracts For Difference (CfD) allocation round on October 21, energy and climate change secretary Edward Davey said on Tuesday.

The plan is to conclude that round between January and March 2016, he said at a think-tank event, after which the Department of Energy & Climate Change (DECC) tweeted his commented. Davey, however, did not provide details about the budget of the round.

The first CfD auction, held a month ago, saw more than 2 GW of renewable energy projects receive over GBP 315 million (USD 467.9m/EUR 428.3m) worth of investment contracts. The scheme, which will replace the Renewables Obligation (RO) programme, ensures a minimum electricity price to renewable power producers for a period of 15 years.
