to-the-point Solar output in California peaks at 8030 MW on Tuesday
July 15 – Solar power generation in the US state of California reached a new record of 8,030 MW at 1306 local time on July 12, said the California Independent System Operator Corp (ISO).
For short periods of time on May 14 and 15, renewable energy sources were serving 54% and 56% of demand, respectively, the operator added.
The state currently has 18.7 GW of clean power capacity, including nearly 8.6 GW of solar and 6 GW of wind. As previously announced, non-hydro renewables accounted for 18% of the total supply to the California ISO grid in 2015, marking an increase of two percentage points from 2014.
Under the California Renewables Portfolio Standard (RPS) the state aims at 50% renewable energy share in total procurement by 2030.
