Sharp switches on 2.4-MW solar array in Japan

September 8 – Sharp Corp’s (TYO:6753) announced its 2.4-MW solar plant in Inabe city, Mie prefecture, has today started commercial operation.
Sharp Inabe Nyuukawa Photovoltaic (PV) Power Plant, as the facility is named, is a joint venture with Fuyo General Lease Co Ltd (TYO:8424) through a special purpose company dubbed Crystal Clear Energy.
The Inabe solar plant with 2.4 MW capacity in direct current (DC), has an estimated output of about 2.68 million kWh per year, enough to supply the annual consumption of 744 local households. Its site area is about 34,000 sq m (365,972 sq ft).
Sharp was responsible for the development and construction of the plant, and will also be in charge of the operation, maintenance and management. The solar panels and cradle used in the construction were also from Sharp, the power conditioners were manufactured by Japanese machinery maker Fuji Electric.
Japan aims to add 28 GW of solar capacity by 2020 in an effort to promote the use of renewable energy sources.
