E.on puts online 229 MW of wind solar parks in US

– Dec 18, 2014 – German utility E.on SE (ETR:EOA) said today it has reached commercial operation of a 211-MW wind park and a 18-MW solar plant this week, both in the US.

The Grandview I wind farm, located near the city of Amarillo in Texas, is equipped with 118 turbines. They are expected to generate enough electricity to power 64,000 local households annually, offsetting 482,000 tonnes of greenhouse emissions per year. It is jointly owned by E.on and GE Energy Financial Services.

Since 2005, E.on has installed some 2.7 GW of wind parks across the US.

The other power project — the 18-MW Fort Huachuca Solar Plant in southern Arizona — was developed in cooperation with Tucson Electric Power (TEP) and the US Army Energy Initiatives Task Force (EITF). E.on provided construction management and supply chain services for the installation, while TEP will own and operate the farm and supply power to Fort Huachuca under a long-term power purchase agreement (PPA).
