Myanmar Thai cos unveil 300-MW solar plan – report

May 20 – Two companies from Myanmar and Thailand have joined forces to implement a costly 300-MW solar project in Myanmar’s Ayeyarwady region, officials told a local newspaper.

U Kunn Zaw Tun, the chairman of Yangon-based Won Toll, told The Myanmar Times on Thursday that his company has signed a USD-1-billion (EUR 890m) deal for the solar project with Thai firm Kamrai Panit. They plan to proceed with the project once a power purchase agreement is signed.

The pair’s ambition is to install the first 50-MW phase in about six months, according to the report. The Thai company will contribute 80% of the capital needed for the initial project, while Won Toll will provide the rest.

A senior official from the Ministry of Electricity and Energy told the newspaper that the government has not yet approved any projects in the Ayeyarwady  region.
