Good Energy poll shows most Brits back solar onshore wind

August 7 – Solar and onshore wind are supported by 76% and 59% of Brits, respectively, according to a survey commissioned by UK renewable power supplier Good Energy Group Plc (LON:GOOD).
The findings were published on Wednesday, a day after the Department of Energy and Climate Change (DECC) released its latest public attitudes tracker. The DECC poll has consistently shown high backing for all renewable sources but the latest edition omitted questions about support for individual renewable technologies. Good Energy’s survey, carried out by Gorkana, did that, engaging 2,000 UK adults.
Solar is opposed by just 4% of respondents in the survey, while onshore wind farms are opposed by only 8%.
“These stats indicate that opposition to renewables remains consistently low, showing it’s a vocal minority dictating policy – flying in the face of public support,” said Will Vooght, head of innovation at Good Energy.
“DECC’s surveys have consistently shown that solar power is the UK’s favourite way of generating electricity. This new survey confirms this,” commented Sonia Dunlop, spokesperson for the Solar Trade Association.
The UK Conservative government, elected in May 2015, has announced moves to axe both subsidies for onshore wind and solar farms.
