Chinese investors eye 1.35 GW of wind solar in Brazil
May 26 – Chinese investors are interested in about 1.35 GW of renewable projects in Brazil, local media reported on Wednesday.
The said projects involve 750 MW of wind power and 600 MW of photovoltaic (PV) schemes, the president of Brazil-China Chamber of Commerce and Industry Charles Tang, told reporters at an event held by the Brazilian Wind Energy Association (Abeeolica).
At least six Chinese power generation companies and some investment funds want to acquire stakes in existing projects. Equipment makers are also looking into supply deals with Brazilian firms. Tang was quoted as saying he expects to see a few deals signed before the year is over.
In addition to the projects mentioned, there are ongoing negotiations for a hydropower plant (HPP) and some thermoelectric projects, the latter amounting to 3 GW of installed capacity.
