Brazil looking for ways to boost PV sector
July 1 – The government of Brazil is studying ways to boost the solar industry in the country, the interim minister of mines and energy, Fernando Coelho Filho, said on Thursday.
The photovoltaic (PV) generation segment is critical to the Brazilian energy mix and new ways to promote solar power must be pursued, especially to prevent it from becoming dependent solely on energy auctions, the minister said.
Solar distributed generation (DG) is one of the possibilities that the government is studying to boost the sector. Currently, the ministry is identifying ways to enable funding for DG systems, an action established under the Distributed Generation Development Programme for Energy, or ProGD.
The government is also holding talks with the Ministry of Cities for the use of the Severance Indemnity Fund for Employees (FGTS) for the installation of DG systems.
