Argentina approves tax incentives for 70-MW PV factory – report

March 6 – Argentina has approved tax incentives for the 70-MW photovoltaic (PV) module factory to be built by German Schmid GmbH for the power utility of San Juan province, local officials told energy news site Energia Estrategica.

Schmid has been allowed to take equipment from the Buenos Aires customs without paying 10% value-added taxes in advance. Until now, the company has imported 20 containers with the complete solar cells production line from Germany, Lucas Estrada, projects manager at utility Energia Provincial Sociedad del Estado (Epse), said.

The facility will manufacture ingots, wafers, cells and 300-W modules, with production expected to start in October 2015. Schmid’s local unit will provide spare parts and service support.

Meanwhile, the companies continue work on the final design and geological evaluations to protect the factory from seismic activity.
