Aquila Capital buys 7.2-MWp solar farm in UK

June 3 – Hamburg-based alternative asset manager Aquila Capital said on Wednesday it has acquired a 7.2-MWp photovoltaic (PV) park in the UK from German company New Energy for the World GmbH.

Aquila Capital did not disclose how much it paid for the acquisition. The solar power plant is located in Banwell, near Bristol, southwestern England and uses CIS (copper, idium and selemium) modules by Japanese manufacturer Solar Frontier. It was developed and constructed by New Energy for the World.

The solar farm was completed and connected to the grid in March 2015 and qualifies for 1.4 Renewables Obligation Certificate (ROCs) per MWh.

“Having already made significant photovoltaic investments in Germany, France and Japan amounting to an overall photovoltaic track record of 462 MWp, this transaction further adds to Aquila Group’s significant track record in offering renewable energy investment solutions,” said Boris Beltermann, Aquila Capital head of solar and wind investments.

Solar Frontier this month announced it had agreed a partnership with New Energy for the World to develop and sell up to 100 MW of solar power plants in the UK following the companies’ cooperation on the solar park in Banwell.
