Chile offers new areas for wind solar projects
October 26 – Chile’s ministry of national assets announced an auction on Monday for additional 443 ha (1,095 acres) of state-owned land in the Antofagasta and Atacama regions for the development of wind, photovoltaic and concentrated solar power (CSP) projects.
The process will include six areas and concession contracts for 30 years. The offers will be received on December 9.
The state has previously awarded areas for the construction of over 7,000 MW of renewable energy, including 11 wind and solar projects that are now operating with a combined 629-MW capacity, energy minister Maximo Pacheco said. An additional 1,338 MW has been declared under construction.
Pacheco reminded that the government’s energy strategy includes the development of a solar power industry in northern Chile.
At the end of September, the country had 2,269 MW of installed renewable energy in operation, equal to 11.41% of the national power system.
