Meyer Burger gets machinery order from SolarWorld

March 9 – Swiss firm Meyer Burger Technology AG (SWF:MBTN) said Monday it has secured a contract to upgrade and expand SolarWorld AG’s (ETR:SWV) solar cell production capacity for the European market.
More precisely, the German solar equipment maker has chosen Meyer Burger’s MAiA 2.1 equipment mass production scalable MB passivated emitter rear contact (PERC) technology for photovoltaic cells. The annual capacity of the advanced MB PERC upgrade technology is around 400 MW, according to the press release.
The value of the contract was not disclosed, but the Swiss company noted that it is in the upper single-digit million swiss francs range.
SolarWorld will use the equipment to boost the overall output of existing production lines. It has already carried out an extensive on-site equipment evaluation study.
Meyer Burger expects to supply and commission the equipment by late 2015.
