Wind farms bring 46% of Brazil’s new power capacity in Jan-Apr
June 5 – Wind power accounted for 46% of all new power capacity additions in Brazil in the first four months of this year, with 911 MW of new wind installed.
The data comes from the Electricity Sector Monitoring Monthly Bulletin. According to the document, released Monday, from January to April this year the expansion of installed capacity from all sources was 1,975 MW. The Ministry of Mines and Energy, stated that in one year, the total power capacity in Brazil has increased by 6%, while wind’s more than doubled.
More specifically, the total wind power generation capacity has grown by 102.8% between April 2014 and April 2015 to 5,833 MW. Solar power capacity rose 62%.
The Brazilian Electricity Sector Monitoring Committee set for 2015 a target of 6,400 MW additional power generation from all sources.
