Uruguay ADP to cut costs via PV energy – report

May 22 – Uruguayan agribusiness company Agronegocios del Plata (ADP) is installing its first two photovoltaic (PV) systems of 150 kW each at storage plants in order to save energy costs and contribute to a sustainable agriculture, local daily El Pais reported on Friday.
The systems, worth USD 294,000 (EUR 263,000) each, will supply the plants and sometimes the national grid in accordance with the crop year and ADP’s activity, Valeria Sasso, manager of marketing and communication, said. The company has signed a 10-year contract with national utility UTE, which is promoting clean energy, and could negotiate a new deal after the expiry thanks to the 20-year life of the modules.
The first PV system will soon start operations at the Young storage facility, while the other modules will be installed at Dolores in the next months. A third system will be evaluated for ADP’s Caraguata base in the future.
