UK’s Solarcentury to install 1-MWp roof solar system in Kenya
June 2 – UK solar company Solarcentury this week said it will design and install an almost 1-MWp roof solar system in Kenya for London Distillers.
This will be the largest commercial rooftop solar array in East Africa, according to the announcement. The solar system will also be the largest in the Kenyan manufacturing industry.
The installation will generate enough electricity to power London Distillers’ building in Athi River during the day. Solarcentury said that the cost of the project will be paid for in six years.
The system will operate in parallel with the grid, or a diesel generator if the grid fails. It will be delivered by Solarcentury’s 10-strong team in Nairobi with support from the company’s London headquarters and is expected to be connected to the grid by the end of the year.
This will be the fourth solar hybrid system Solarcentury has installed in Kenya.
