UK govt’s FiTs proposal to “essentially end support” for
August 27 – The proposed cuts to feed-in tariffs (FiTs) for small-scale solar and wind projects in the UK will “take away power from people and hand it back to big energy firms”, said Alasdair Cameron from Friends of the Earth.
The Department of Energy and Climate Change (DECC) today released a consultation on proposed changes to the scheme, which includes heavy cuts to solar photovoltaic (PV) and wind tariffs, and a FiT expenditure cap of between GBP 75 million (USD 116m/EUR 103m) and GBP 100 million by 2018/19.
The energy campaigner for the environmental organisations network said the FiT reduction will essentially end support for rooftop solar.
“From California to China, the world is reaping the benefits of a solar revolution, yet incredibly in the UK David Cameron is actually trying to shut rooftop solar down,” said Cameron, energy campaigner for the environmental organisations network.
The FiT review is the latest proposal by the new Conservative government in the UK for reduction in renewables support.
