July 1 – Peru’s Ministry of Energy said today that the country’s wind and solar energy output in May 2016 has increased by 71.4% year-on-year to 125 GWh.
The production of hydropower plants (HPP) decreased 13.5% on the year to 1,912 GWh. The decline can be attributed to the lack of rains during the month, the government said.
Thermal plants generated 2,322 GWh for a 31.5% increase. Total power generation reached 4,359 GWh, a 7.7% rise from the previous year.
From January to May of this year, the country’s total energy production was 21,653 GWh, of which roughly 463 GWh came from wind and solar sources.
