to-the-point Nigerian uni breaks ground on 10-MW solar park
October 17 – Nigeria’s Minister of State for Education, Anthony Gozie Anwukah, on Saturday broke ground on a 10-MW solar power plant at the University of Ibadan (UI) in Oyo State, local media reported.
The project is a partnership between the university, Nigeria’s Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund) and the German government. Upon completion in six months, the solar array will be generating electricity for UI and the neighbouring communities, and will also be used by engineering students and technicians as a training ground.
The project, which is expected to be replicated at three more universities, aligns with the country’s Energising Education Programme Initiative (EEPI), launched by President Muhammadu Buhari just recently.
