to-the-point Japan Railways to build 1.3-MW solar array in Akita
September 21 – Japan Railways Group’s Akita branch held a ceremony on Thursday to celebrate the start of construction of a 1.3-MW solar array.
The solar system is scheduled to begin operations by March 2016. According to local media reports, the project is expected to produce annually 1.7 million kWh, enough to meet the consumption of about 470 households.
The solar panels will be deployed on a area of about 25,000 sq m (269,097sq ft). The output will be sold to local utility Tohoku Electric Power Co Inc.
Japan aims to have 28 GW of solar capacity connected to the national grid in the next five years.
