SunPower starts building 102-MW solar park in California
June 18 – US solar panel maker SunPower Corp (NASDAQ:SPWR) said Thursday it has broken ground on its 102-MW Henrietta solar project in California.
Located in Kings County, the plant is scheduled to be up and running by the end of 2016. Its output will be sold to Pacific Gas and Electric under a long-term power purchase agreement (PPA). The solar farm is expected to produce enough electricity for over 22,000 homes.
SunPower is building the plant on a 670-acre (271 ha) site, using its modular Oasis solar power blocks, which are designed to facilitate utility-scale deployment. The technology features robotic solar panel cleaning that the company says can help improve system performance by up to 15%.
SunPower recently set up a yieldco vehicle with peer First Solar Inc, called 8point3 Energy Partners LP. Earlier this month the partners announced the launch of the yieldco’s initial public offering (IPO) on Nasdaq, which could raise up to USD 483 million (EUR 424m).
