December 16 – Suniva Inc has completed the expansion of manufacturing capacity at its headquarters in metro-Atlanta, Georgia, the US crystalline silicon solar cells and modules maker announced on Thursday.
The expansion brings the company’s Georgia-based manufacturing capacity to 450 MW.
Suniva announced the start of the production capacity expansion at its headquarters in Norcross in 2015. It said then the project would boost production of its Optimus modules, with power ratings up to 290 W for a 60-cell format and 340 W for a 72-cell format.
The solar company, set up in 2007, is currently majority owned by Shunfeng International Clean Energy Ltd (HKG:1165), or SFCE. The investment by the Chinese company last year facilitated Suniva’s expansion.
The solar manufacturer serves the residential, commercial and micro-utility segments, with US government applications being a key market.
“Our latest expansion demonstrates that American manufacturing continues to be a meaningful force in the global solar manufacturing industry,” Matt Card, Suniva executive vice president, commercial operations, said in Thursday’s announcement. “The increase in solar cell efficiency we have achieved, along with our new capacity, brings even more of our high-power products to an even wider customer base,” Card added.
