SunEdison wants to delay start of construction in Brazil – report

October 14 – SunEdison (OTCMKTS:SUNEQ) has asked Brazilian authorities for permission to postpone the start of construction of two solar parks totalling 60 MW that were contracted in last year’s auction, Reuters said, quoting a document it obtained.

The bankrupt US renewables company has requested three additional months because of a lack of equipment that meets the local-content rules set by the National Development Bank (BNDES). SunEdison claims that the lack of local suppliers was critical for the delay in securing the environmental licensing and license for connection to the grid.

The company, however, intends to keep the agreed completion dates for the projects, located in Bahia state. The plants are supposed to enter service in July 2017.

SunEdison is also among a number of companies that have asked for two more years for the implementation of a set of energy projects negotiated in a 2014 tender.
