Successor of SolarMax inverter maker starts production in Germany

October 14 – The company successor of insolvent Sputnik Engineering AG, the Swiss maker of SolarMax inverters, said on Monday it has started production in Bavaria, Germany.
Set up in July 2015, the SolarMax group began manufacturing string and central inverters under the SolarMax brand for grid connected solar power systems in September. It has moved inverter production from Switzerland to the Bavarian town of Burgau, close to its headquarters in Ellzee. The SolarMax group has taken over all the trademark and production equipment of Sputnik.
The company also said it has recently set up a research and development unit and planned to launch new products. “In addition to the service for old equipment of the Sputnik engineering AG we will continuously develop new equipment, which are optimally tailored to the respective customer needs and market requirements,” said SolarMax managing director Mathias Mader.
Sputnik filed for insolvency in late 2014 after it failed in several attempts to come near the break-even point. It blamed the deteriorating market conditions, especially in Europe, for its troubles.
