January 29 – Sonnen GmbH today announced a partnership with SolarWorld and PetersenDean along with the opening of headquarters in Los Angeles, as the firm stepping up its push in the US market for residential energy storage.
The Germany-based energy storage company is partnering with solar manufacturer SolarWorld and residential roofing company PetersenDean to offer an integrated storage-plus-solar product that uses the sonnenBatterie eco storage system to PetersenDean customers.
In addition, Sonnen is working with Spruce, a residential solar and efficiency financing specialist, to develop financing solutions for residential electricity storage. The two plan to make it available to Sonnen’s channel partners in the first quarter of 2016.
The opening of the Los Angeles office follows the start of manufacturing in the US and the establishment of a research and development (R&D) facility in Atlanta, Georgia last year. The company announced the start of series production in San Jose, California in December.
“Energy storage stands at the beginning stages of adoption, and with companies like sonnen driving technology, we see this market achieving a similar growth trajectory as solar,” Ardes Johnson, SolarWorld’s US vice president for sales and marketing said in a separate statement. Bonn, Germany-based SolarWorld ranks as the largest US crystalline-silicon solar manufacturer.
