May 29 – UK firm Solarcentury is considering developing 200 MW of solar power a year in Mexico once the country approves new rules for its power market after the energy reform, Alejandro Marti, project manager for the company in Mexico, told journalists on Thursday.
There is some 5,000 MW of solar projects waiting for the new rules which are an opportunity to improve the feasibility of many projects and their access to financing, according to Marti. He also said there is interest among Mexican banks to finance solar parks under new rules.
Until now, Solarcentury has signed a memorandum of understanding with the state of Nayarit to build solar farms with a combined capacity of 10 MWp, initially for supplies to public schools selected by the state.
