Solar Frontier gets 23-MW CIS module order from Turkey

April 30 – Japanese company Solar Frontier has won a contract to supply 23 MW of copper indium diselenide (CIS) thin-film modules to Turkish solar developer Konar Energy.

The equipment will be used for five solar parks in Turkey, Solar Frontier said on Wednesday. Konar Energy aims to have 30 MWp of installed photovoltaic (PV) farms by end-2016 and 100 MWp by end-2018.

Under the terms of the order, signed at the Solarex 2015 event in Istanbul, the delivery of Solar Frontier modules for a 5.9-MW project in Konya and a 4.7-MW system in Burdur will start soon. Shipments for the three other projects, all in southern Turkey, will follow by late 2016.

The module deal, financial details on which are not available, was won through Solar Frontier Europe. It comes to support the Japanese parent’s efforts to expand its global presence.

Solar Frontier, a subsidiary of Showa Shell Sekiyu KK (TYO:5002), explained that its CIS modules produce more power than crystalline silicon modules in Turkey thanks to their low temperature coefficient.
