Sener calls for maintaining Spain’s innovation in CSP – report
Jun 2, 2015 18:42 CEST
June 2 – Spain can develop some new concentrated solar power (CSP) in order to maintain the leadership of its firms in innovation, Miguel Domingo, director of Environment and Solar at Sener Grupo de Ingenieria SA, told news agency Efe on Sunday.
With its excess power capacity at present, the country does not need large-scale development, but some concrete innovative project would make sense, according to Domingo. He admitted that the sector was greatly affected by the government’s decision to reduce subsidies for renewable energy.
Projects in Cadiz and Seville have allowed the technology and engineering group to acquire expertise for improvements that are now implemented abroad, for example in the Noor 2 and Noor 3 projects, part of a 510-MW CSP complex in Morocco.
According to Spanish grid operator Red Electrica de Espana (REE), CSP plants generated 3.6% of total power in May and 1.7% since the beginning of 2015.
