Schmid sells 8 APCVD systems to Asian solar firms
February 26 – German photovoltaics (PVs) processing equipment maker Schmid GmbH said on Tuesday it has sold eight Atmospheric Pressure Chemical Vapor Deposition (APCVD) systems used in the production of solar cells.
Schmid described the three purchasers of the eight APCVD systems as “well-known Asian manufacturers”, without disclosing their names or the value of the deals.
“In future there will be more and more technology upgrades in the direction of high-efficiency cells, in particular concepts with maximum energy yield such as bifacial solar cells,” said Christian Buchner, Schmid’s vice president and head of Business Unit PV.
The company explained that the systems sold to the Asian manufacturers are designed specifically for new processes and high volume production at atmospheric pressure using chemical vapor deposition. They are most effective when it comes to applying many of the layers required in modern high-efficiency solar cells, it noted.
