Scatec Solar puts online 10.4-MW PV plant in Jordan

June 21 – Norwegian power producer Scatec Solar ASA said Friday its 10.4-MW Oryx photovoltaic (PV) park in Jordan has officially been put into commercial operation.
The solar farm is the first completed project within the 43-MW portfolio of three plants that the company is working on in the country. It was also among the first utility-scale projects granted permission by the Jordanian authorities to be built under the nation’s new Renewable Energy Programme, according to the press release.
Scatec Solar owns a 90% stake in the solar plant, while the rest is in the hands of local partner Quest Energy Investments. Located near Ma’an city, Oryx is expected to generate 25 GWh of electricity per year, enough to power about 5,000 households and offset 15,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions annually.
The output of the PV plant will be sold to National Electric Power Co (NEPCO) under a 20-year power purchase agreement (PPA). The facility was hooked to its network via an existing sub-station controlled by the state-owned utility.
“With the commissioning of Oryx, we expand our international footprint into the Middle East and in the coming months, we will deepen our presence in the region,” CEO Raymond Carlsen said.
