Russia’s Hevel brings Kosh-Agach solar capacity to 10 MW
December 23 – Russian photovoltaic (PV) module maker Hevel Solar LLC said Tuesday it has put online a 5-MW solar park in Kosh-Agach, near the Mongolian border.
About 66% of the equipment used in the project has been produced in Russia.
Hevel pointed out that Kosh-Agach is one of the most sunny regions of Russia with over 300 sunny days per year. In early September 2014, the company commissioned a 5-MW PV farm in the same area, so it now has 10 MW operational there.
The solar company, a joint venture between asset management group Renova and nanotechnology firm Rusnano Corp, has agreed with the Altai government to install 45 MW of solar capacity there. The area also has significant rare-earth minerals reserves, including molybdenum and wolfram, but their exploration has so far been hampered by insufficient power supply.
