CANADA: Repower has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Vancouver-based Zero Emission Energy Developments (ZED) for the supply of 35 Repower MM92 turbines with 100-metre blades.

The agreement covers five small-scale projects totalling 75MW in British Columbia. It comes after an eight-month competitive procurement process conducted by KPMG and Hatch.
“This marks our entry into western Canada after successes in Ontario and Quebec,” said Repower Canada CEO Helmut Herold.
ZED is moving forward in a market where wind energy developers are still awaiting their next chance to sell power to the province’s government-owned monopoly utility, BC Hydro, five years after its last request for proposals was issued.
The company plans to apply for power purchase contracts under the utility’s standing offer programme, said a ZED spokesman.
The programme, which has been mainly used by small hydro developers since it was introduced in 2008, offers a fixed tariff to clean power projects between 50kW and 15MW in size.
Base prices range from C$ 94.86 to C$ 103.69 per megawatt hour, depending on where projects are located in the province, and are adjusted for the time of day and month when the energy is delivered.
ZED plans to file its applications in the fourth quarter of this year after completing permitting and anticipates to start construction before the end of the year.
