January 8 – Today, Qatar Solar Technologies (QSTec) was unveiled as the new investor in Centrotherm Photovoltaics AG (ETR:CTN) after an existing stockholder closed the sale of its 80% stake in the German solar machinery maker to its co-founder and QSTec.
The Qatari firm is a joint venture between Qatar Foundation with a 70% stake, Germany solar company SolarWorld AG with 29%, and the Qatar Development Bank with 1%.
As announced last month, Solarpark Blautal GmbH signed a conditional deal to buy an 80% stake in Centrotherm from Sol Futura Verwaltungsgesellschaft mbH for an undisclosed sum. At the time, Centrotherm said that co-founder Robert M Hartung is a significant shareholder of Solarpark Blautal alongside an unnamed investor.
“With our interest in centrotherm, QSTec expands along the solar value chain. Our aim is to develop new solar solutions and other areas beyond PV that will positively affect the lives of millions of people across the world,” said Khalid Al Hajri, chairman and CEO of QSTec.
Solarpark Blautal now owns 90% of Centrotherm, including the 10% stake previously held by TCH GmbH. Meanwhile, Hartung is expected to be nominated as the new chairman of the company’s supervisory board.
