June 29 – Peru’s wind and solar farms generated 73 GWh last month, equal to 1.8% of a total 4,058 GWh produced in the country, a report of the government showed on Friday.
Wind power output reached 55 GWh versus 7 GWh in May 2014, which reflects the commercial launch of the first three wind farms in the country between April and October 2014, with a combined capacity of 142 MW.
Peru’s solar generation rose 28.5% year-on-year to 18 GWh. The country already has 96 MW in photovoltaic parks, including new 16 MW operating since November 2014.
Peru’s total power output grew 5% year-on-year, driven by a 10.2% increase in hydroelectric generation, to 2,195 GWh, while thermal plants generated 1,790 GWh, down 3.3%. Self-generators produced an additional 236 GWh.
