November 18 – US power company NRG Energy Inc (NYSE:NRG) has commissioned a 14.7-MW community solar farm in Massachusetts.
Located in the town of Spencer and featuring more than 61,000 photovoltaic (PV) panels, the project is NRG’s largest community solar facility in the US.
The installation is 100% subscribed and will serve the electricity needs of more than 1,500 residential and commercial customers, the company said today. The subscribers have signed 20-year contracts with NRG Community Solar, under which they pay a fixed sum a month and earn credits toward their electricity bill based on their portion of renewable energy net metering credits generated by the project.
NRG said the facility is one of many community solar projects it has in the pipeline in Massachusetts and Minnesota. The company already has two other operating community solar systems in Massachusetts.
