NEXTracker to make solar trackers at Flex facility in Brazil
November 19 – US-based NEXTracker Inc said on Wednesday it will make use of soon-to-be owner Flextronics’ (NASDAQ:FLEX) manufacturing base in Brazil to produce solar photovoltaic (PV) trackers locally.
By doing so, the company’s equipment will comply with the local component requirements set by the Brazilian Development Bank (BNDES), meaning that solar project developers using NEXTracker’s locally-made offerings will be able to seek credit lines from BNDES.
“Brazil represents the next frontier in Latin American solar deployment, and opening a NEXTracker Brazil office with Flex positions us to serve this very important market,” said Dan Shugar, NEXTracker’s CEO.
Electronics production services provider Flex agreed to buy NEXTracker for up to USD 330 million (EUR 307m) in September 2015. The transaction is scheduled for completion next month.
Flex’s existing factory in Sorocaba, Brazil’s Sao Paulo state, employs more than 9,000 people.
