November 14 – NextEra Energy Resources LLC last week cut the ribbon on the Blythe and McCoy Solar Energy Centers in California, having a combined generating capacity of 485 MW.
The company built and will own and operate the projects, which consist of more than 4 million solar panels with trackers.
Located in Riverside County, mostly on land managed by the US Bureau of Land Management (BLM), the solar arrays will be able to power more than 181,000 homes, NextEra Energy Resources, a subsidiary of NextEra Energy Inc (NYSE:NEE), calculates.
The electricity generated will serve customers of Southern California Edison. It will also help healthcare provider Kaiser Permanente meet its goal of using 100% renewable energy by 2025. The latter has a 20-year contract to purchase 110 MW of the site’s generation.
The projects have created 1,500 construction jobs since work on them began in 2014, NextEra Energy Resources noted.
