Meyer Burger’s 2014 net loss narrows as sales rise 56% y/y

March 27 – Swiss solar machinery firm Meyer Burger Technology AG (SWF:MBTN) said Thursday its sales for the full 2014 have jumped by 56% year-on-year, causing its net loss to shrink to CHF 134.7 million (USD 140.1m/EUR 128.7m) from CHF 162.8 million.

The company’s loss before interest and tax was reduced to CHF 161.8 million from CHF 196.8 million a year ago.

Cash outflow from operating activities expanded to CHF 152.8 million. For comparison, Meyer Burger’s cash outflow in 2013 was CHF 130.4 million.

The company saw its net sales rise to CHF 315.8 million from CHF 202.7 million, as expected. Asia accounted for 49% of full-year sales, while Europe and the Americas brought 27% and 24%, respectively.

Meyer Burger booked CHF 326 million in fresh orders in the reporting period, up by 13% on the year. The amount includes CHF 42 million of large orders. At the end of December the company had an order backlog of CHF 190.1 million.

For 2015, the manufacturer guided for net sales of approximately CHF 400 million. As for its long-term targets through 2020, the company gears for net sales of CHF 1.3 billion and sustainable positive cash flows, it noted.
