Meyer Burger gets solar equipment order from France

April 10 – Meyer Burger Technology AG (SWF:MBTN) has received a CHF-12-million-plus (USD 12.3m/EUR 11.6m) order to replace the existing solar manufacturing test equipment and technology at a French research centre.

The Swiss solar machinery company said Thursday it has entered into a strategic partnership with the French Alternative Energies and Atomic Energy Commission (CEA) to conduct joint research on the next generation of high performance solar technologies.

Under the CHF-12-million order, Meyer Burger will supply CEA with high performance Heterojunction (HJT) cell coating equipment, SmartWire Connection technology (SWCT), high capacity cell testing equipment and next generation bifacial encapsulation technology and equipment. Delivery and installation are scheduled for late 2015.

The equipment will be used for research and development (R&D) activities to verify new features and capabilities in an industrial environment. The ultimate objective is to further develop the next generation of HJT and SWCT cells and module production equipment technologies.

Meyer Burger said collaboration has already started at its competence centre for cell and surface coating technologies in Hohenstein-Ernstthal, Germany.
