Kronos Solar project of 48 MW on hold after Pickles move
May 1, 2015 15:15 CEST
May 1 – UK communities secretary Eric Pickles will be the one to decide whether a 48-MW solar park proposed by Germany-based Kronos Solar Projects in Test Valley, Hampshire will be built.
The Test Valley Borough Council approved the project earlier this week but Pickles intervened, placing a “holding direction” on the planning application, local media report on Friday. By doing so, the secretary of state for communities and local government reserved his right to make a decision himself.
Initially, Kronos had proposed to build a bigger facility at the site, but after its original application was blocked by the council it scaled-down the proposal.
The 48-MW solar park, if built, would be able to produce electricity for around 12,500 households, according to Kronos estimates. The land where the plant would be built is owned by Test Valley Borough councillor Danny Busk.
