Japan’s Ichigo breaks ground on 43-MW solar plant in Gunma Prefecture

October 16 – Japanese real estate investor Ichigo Group Holdings (JASDAQ:2337) held on Thursday a groundbreaking ceremony for its 43-MW solar power plant in Gunma Prefecture.

The Ichigo Showamura Ogose ECO Power Plant, as it is named, is the largest solar plant in the Kanto region, spread over an area of
850,000 square meters (9,149,323 sq ft) in Showamura town.

With 165,000 photovoltaic (PV) panels, the plant is scheduled to start commercial operations by February 2018 and generate about 50,000 kWh per year, enough to meet the annual demand of some 14,000 households.

The company also expects to secure a net operating income of JPY 1.35 billion (USD 11.3m/EUR 9.9m).

On September 28, Ichigo formed a contract with Japanese diversified group Hitachi Ltd, to be the plant’s engineer and construction (EPC) contractor.
