JA Solar to equip Chinese PV-demo base with 420 MW of modules
May 31, 2016 10:38 CEST
May 31 – Chinese firm JA Solar Holdings Co Ltd (NASDAQ:JASO) said Tuesday 420 MW of its panels will be used in a national advanced photovoltaic (PV) technology demonstration project in northern Shanxi province.
Phase one of the Front Runner scheme will have a total installed capacity of 950 MW. The complex, located in Datong city, is estimated to require an initial investment of CNY 10 billion (USD 1.52bn/EUR 1.36bn).
Under a deal with the municipal government, JA Solar will finance and equip a 50-MW park. The remaining 370 MW of the panels will be used by six other Front Runner investors, namely China Three Gorges Corp, China Huadian Corp, China Power Investment Corp, China Guangdong Nuclear Power Group, Beijing Energy Investment Holding and Sungrow Power Supply.
The Datong demonstration project will comprise 13 solar power plants in total. Once fully operational, they are expected to generate 1.5 TWh of electricity per year, enough to save 480,000 tonnes of standard coal annually.
The Datong demonstration base is the first of several planned GW-scale Front Runner projects.
