Iceni acquires custom built boat for Grimsby harbour
UK: A new catamaran from South Boats to be deployed at SSE’s Greater Gabbard wind farm in the North Sea has been custom-built to fit the locks at the port of Grimsby in eastern England.
The 17-metre Iceni Defiant service vessel completed its sea trials and was handed over to operator Iceni Marine Services at a ceremony at London’s St Katherine’s Dock last week.
It will be joined by a smaller fast response vessel, Iceni Pride, which is due to be launched in March and will be the fourth vessel South Boats has built for Iceni.
Defiant utilises Scania engines and Rolls Royce water jets. Custom-designing vessels for ports which are suitable geographically for wind farm projects but have been configured for other purposes such as fishing fleets or container ships could reduce the need to adapt harbours for offshore wind operations.
Delivery of the new vessel was also accompanied by the announcement of orders for two more larger 24 metre wind farm service boats to be built for Iceni by South Boats.
