Geronimo to sell solid renewables portfolio to BHE
May 22 – US renewables developer Geronimo Energy LLC said on Friday it will sell 625 MW of wind projects plus a portfolio of seven solar schemes to a unit of Warren Buffett’s Berkshire Hathaway Energy.
More specifically, BHE Renewables LLC will buy the 400-MW Grande Prairie and up-to-225-MW Walnut Ridge wind projects in Nebraska and Illinois, respectively. Grande Prairie is expected to enter the construction phase this year and become operational in 2016. On the other hand, Walnut Ridge is still under development and is scheduled for construction next year.
Omaha Public Power District (OPPD) will be buying the entire output of Grande Prairie once it is completed. Walnut Ridge, in turn, has a power purchase agreement (PPA) for 140 MW with the General Services Administration (GSA) of the US government.
As per the solar portfolio, it includes seven projects in Minnesota that are part of Xcel Energy’s Community Solar Garden Program. These solar parks will be built next year.
The value of the deal between Geronimo and BHE was not given.
