Eurus Energy breaks ground on 27.6-MW PV plant in Hawaii
February 29 – Japan’s Eurus Energy Holdings Corp said today it has started building a 27.6-MW solar farm on Hawaii’s Oahu island.
The EE Waianae Solar Project LLC, as it is named, is located in the Waianae region. With commercial operation scheduled for December 2017, this is Eurus’ second largest utility-scale solar project in the US. Canadian Solar Inc (NASDAQ:CSIQ) will supply the photovoltaic (PV) modules. The output of the plant will be sold to Hawaiian Electric Company, Inc under a 22-year power purchase agreement (PPA).
This project qualifies for the US Investment Tax Credit (ITC). It counts Toyota Tsusho Corporation’s US subsidiary as a tax investor.
Hawaii plans to reach a 100% renewables share by 2045, which Eurus views as a favourable business development. The company noted it plans to further expand in the state.
