June 19 – Chile’s environmental authorities in the northern Arica region on Friday accepted for evaluation a 105-MW concentrated solar power (CSP) project submitted by Elecnor Chile SA, the local unit of Spanish power company Elecnor SA (BME:ENO).
The Camarones project consists in a solar power tower with a 220-kV grid connection, to be built with a total investment of USD 800 million (EUR 706.1m).
The company plans to install the plant in a desert area close to road infrastructure but separated from populated sectors within the Camarones municipality as of the middle of 2016. The facility is scheduled to operate 30 years as of 2019.
