July 9 – Ecuador has awarded a contract for construction of a hybrid solar-biofuel system on the Galapagos’ Isabela island to German Siemens AG (FRA:SIE) for USD 13.7 million (EUR 12.4m), the electricity ministry said Wednesday.
The project is supported by German development bank KfW with co-financing from the Ecuadorian government.
The system will include a photovoltaic plant of 1.15 MWp and a 1.2-MW dual thermal plant able to operate on Jatropha oil and diesel with an energy storage system of 3.3 MWh. The facilities will be installed within 535 days after the payment of an advance.
German consultancy Lahmeyer International was responsible for the studies and the final design and will oversee the project.
