Duke Energy Carolinas issues RfP for 750 GWh of renewables
October 24 – US utility Duke Energy (NYSE:DUK) on Monday issued a request for proposals (RfP) for 750 GWh of renewable energy in its service territory in North Carolina, including for solar, wind, biomass and landfill gas.
The company noted that the RfP does not concern facilities that use swine and poultry waste to generate energy and added that the requested 750 GWh is what 400 MW of solar power capacity would generate in a year.
Interested bidders must already be in the interconnection queue that includes already proposed projects in the region. Their plants should enter into service by December 2018.
Duke Energy Carolinas is also seeking to buy renewable energy certificates (RECs) from existing plants in its service territory.
The RfP will help Duke Energy meet the state’s 2007 Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency Portfolio Standard (REPS), which makes it mandatory for the company to generate 12.5% of its retail sales in the state by renewables or energy efficiency programmes by 2021, it said.
