DP Energy gets nod for 375-MW renewables hybrid in S Australia
August 5 – Irish renewables firm DP Energy said today it has received development approval from the government of South Australia for the up to 375-MW Port Augusta Renewable Energy Park.
The particular project is a hybrid one as it involves the installation of solar photovoltaic (PV) panels on almost 400 ha (988 acres) of land and 59 wind turbines. When the plant becomes operational, it will produce about 1,000 GWh of electricity per year, enough to power about 200,000 households.
DP Energy calculates that it will need to spend some AUD 680 million (USD 521m/EUR 467m) on the project. The company plans to use the services of local businesses wherever possible.
The project will help South Australia achieve its low carbon investment target of AUD 10 billion by 2025, DP Energy said. It will create 250 jobs during the construction phase, peaking at some 600, and between 15 and 20 positions after that.
