The Netherlands is the perfect place to harvest wind power due to its flat landscape and strong breezes. To take advantage of this resource, Dutch Design Academy of Eindhoven student Dave Hakkens created Wind Oil – a machine that extracts healthy oil from seeds and nuts by pressing them using a windmill. This simple handmade system allows people to produce their own oil from walnuts, peanuts, sesame seeds and linseeds for cooking or dressing salads. Check out Dave’s awesome video after the jump!
Wind Oil uses the wind’s energy to extract cold pressed oil from nuts and seeds for good, quality cooking. The oil can be stored in reused glass bottles with a cork, and labeled with a sticker. This creative designer has also thought about what to do with the leftover pulp, which is full of protein – he recommends adding it to sauces and dishes or feeding it to your animal friends or plants!
